3rd time is a charm...

In a CAHL rarity the Arrowhawks played the Maple Leafs for the 3rd time this season on Friday at the Chiller North and prevailed in the rubber match 6-5 in OT to move to 8-2 on the season. From the drop of the puck the Hawks seemed to be poised for a rout after jumping to a 2-0 lead 5 minutes into the contest. Defenseman Mac Lawless, fresh off a road trip to Bob Evans, opened the scoring at 8:18 of the 1st with a top self wrist shot set up by Bryan Griffith. Then at the 7:35 mark Tom Morgan fired a snap shot through the 5 hole on a drop pass from Mark Monahan and the rout was on, except no one told the Leafs. The Hawks apparently forgot that there was a 2nd period and gave goalie Jason Jensen and his new pads no help as the Leafs scored 3 unanswered goals to take the lead after 2. The 3rd period was a wild one as Kevin Griffith tied the game at 7:23 of the 3rd when he roofed one in tight on a pass from Lawless. Things were looking up until the Leafs scored 2 goals to take a 2 goal lead late in the 3rd. The Hawks were facing a loss until the last 4 minutes of the period when Morgan took a Monahan behind the back backhand pass and one-timed it for his 2nd goal of the contest with 3:27 left. The line of Monahan, Torsok and Morgan was humming all night and went out for the faceoff and it payed off. The pressure continued and with 2:55 left Lawless swooped in from the point and tied the game with his 2nd of the night. The crowd of 20 (12 of which came over from the other rink) went nuts and the game was headed for overtime. Monahan, Torsok and Morgan went out for the opening draw and 7 seconds into OT Mark Monahan completed the comeback with a slap shot in the lower left corner and the game was over. With 2 games left before the playoffs the Arrowhawks will face the Bombers next week before closing the regular season against More Cowbell. This is were it gets fun...
