Next up: championship game

Left wing Tom Morgan looks for the puck as center Mark Monahan is cross-checked in front of the net against Discover, last week's opening round playoff opponent.

Easton – The Arrowhawks defeated CS Bank, the top-seed in the division Friday 5-2 and have advanced to their 8th championship game in the past 9 sessions.

It was evident early the Hawks were firing on all cylinders. 3 minutes into the opening period, Nate Mensel scored the games first goal (assisted by Andrew and Hannah). Two minutes later, Andrew potted goal number 2 to put the Hawks up 2-0 with 7 minutes left in the period. The Hawks never trailed.

"We did well tonight," said leading goal scorer LW Tom Morgan. "Every line did their part. The defense played great and Jensen was his usual self, stopping nearly everything thrown at him."

Freakin Basso and Minnesota Nick missed the game to attend a charity bass-fishing tournament in Florida. "Normally we wouldn't permit players to miss important games like this, but fishing for a good cause is important, even during the playoffs," said GM Rick Titus. Word is the two had too many cocktails and drove their boat into the mud, needing to be rescued by locals. "They'll sleep it off and be back with the team for the championship game," Titus added. No word whether they'll be fined for poor fishing.

Hannah Fields and John Kenyon played stellar 2-way hockey, stifling many of CS Bank's offensive rushes. The Hawks killed off a crucial 5-3 power play in the second period with the score tied 2-2. Moments later, Mark Monahan intercepted a clearing attempt and found a wide-open Tom Morgan breaking down the center of the ice. Morgan gave a head fake and notched the game winner. Morgan added another goal later, his 7th goal of the playoffs.

No word yet on whom the Hawks will play in the championship game. If they win, it'll be the Hawks 5th championship, a record for the most championships in the division.
