Columbus -- Columbus Arrowhawks forward Tom Morgan has been named the winner of the CAHL Foundation Player Award in recognition of his charitable work.
The award, which was announced by the league Tuesday, includes a $25,000 grant for Morgan's charities.
Morgan established the Morgan Cancer Foundation in 1997, which funds research to fight multiple myeloma -- an incurable bone cancer. The foundation has raised more than $3 million in research grants.
"I am very humbled by this prestigious honor," Morgan said in a statement. "I would like to thank the Arrowhawks organization for the continuous support they have shown to me, my family and the Morgan Cancer Foundation."
In addition to his foundation, Morgan is active in the Arrowhawk's team charities, including the organization's annual charity softball game. Last summer, he also served as one of the celebrity spokesmen for the first Ride for the Team motorcycle rally.
After more than three years with the Arrowhawks, Morgan continues to be a frequent visitor to local children's hospitals and hosts locker room visits for ill or disadvantaged children.
The CAHL Foundation Player Award, in its sixth year, recognizes a CAHL player who applies the core values of hockey commitment, perseverance and teamwork to enrich the lives of people in his community.
