Hawks fall to Leafs 2-1 in OT SO

COLUMBUS,OH - The Arrowhawks did their best to overcome a short bench tonight against the offensive powerhouse Maple Leafs. The Leafs scored first off a deflection in the first period. It appeared as thought the Leafs would impose their will and run away with the game. On paper the Hawks were outmanned. Perennial scorer Mark Waterstreet and Tedd Martin were in rare form in the offensive zone. The Hawks iced only three defenseman, Ted Bullwinkle, Mike 'I got this' Gauthier, and Chris 'Jesus was a' Carpenter. In the end, it was enough though as they thwarted chance after chance. Oh, Andrew Daniels played a large black hole part as well, manning the pipes for the Hawks.

"Andrew was the difference," said LW Tom Morgan. "He kept us in the game with his large stature and quick glove. They had too many chances to count and he was up to the task." he added after the game.

The Hawks were down several of their regulars including captain Mark Monahan, Joe 'No Fear' Factor and Terry 'I may be old but I'm still adept at making a difference' Walker. Also out for the night was John 'Grand' Kenyon, a grinder and shutdown overall good guy.

The Hawks buckled down in the defensive zone, neutralizing the Leafs potent offensive attack. They brought their lunch pails, clogged the neutral zone and back checked with reckless abandon to help out their summer session netminder.

The Hawks evened the score late in the third period when center Kevin Griffith finally slid one past the Leafs quick goalie. The score held up, despite a blistering flurry of chances from the Leafs in the final two minutes.

Michael McDonald still rules!

The three minute overtime was uneventful for both clubs.

On to the shootout. First up for the Hawks was Kevin Griffith, who couldn't finish. The Leafs first two shooters couldn't either, as each were turned aside by Daniels, who once again stood tall. Tom Morgan, usually automatic in the shootout, hit a rut in the ice and lost the shot in close, not scoring. Oleg 'Epic Win' Chetverikov was the third shooter, who admitted after the contest we was gassed. He closed in on the Leafs goalie but couldn't put it past. The final shooter for the Leafs went high glove, railing the puck off the inside of the crossbar and sealing the win for the Leafs.

"We got a point, even though we were short," said Chris Carpenter. "We'd have liked a win, but we'll take the point." he added.

The Hawks will have to find a way to close up their defense moving forward. They've given up way too many goals so far in the session, even though they've lit the lamp more than usual.

  1. Calling us an "offensive powerhouse" is a bit of a stretch, LOL. We even were shut out last week.

  2. Close up the defense are you blind. Defense only gave up one goal and that was off a skate. Awful, pitiful, sahmeful, reporting. Just terrible.

  3. The official response to unhappy readers complaining about the quality of the journalism on this site is as follows... Suck it! We can't afford to pay our reporters so we just stock the fridge full of beer. We know it'll be a good write-up when we come into the offices after a game night and there are empties laying everywhere. Facts are sometimes forgotten in the drunken haze, so FORGIVE us for our shameful reporting (at least we can spell it correctly, ha!)
