Mo's pull away in 3rd, win 7-5

Arrowhawk captain Mark Monahan focuses before the game during warmups. Monahan would notch his fourth hat-trick with the Hawks in a losing effort and later proclaim "I like cheese."

COLUMBUS, OH - The Arrowhawks opened the 2012 Friday C2 summer session with a 7-5 loss tonight at the hands of the fall session champion Eskimos. It took the Mo's less than two minutes to light the lamp -- not a good sign for the Hawks. The Mo's scored the first three goals in the game and it looked like the rout was on. Kudos to the boys in red as they buckled down behind their captain late in the first period, who scored two dandy goals only :17 seconds apart.

"It was a strange game tonight," said captain Mark Monahan who notched his fourth hat trick of his career early in the second period. "We were down early then we evened the score then I look up and it's 4-4. We didn't get our heads up and coughed the puck up all night. Give them credit, they skated hard in both zones and finished when it mattered."

Monahan was a terror with the puck. Having scored all the goals he could (the league only permits a maximum three goals per game for a player) the Hawks moved Monahan to defense. Some may question the move, considering Monahan is a vital playmaker in the offensive zone, great on face-offs and always in position defensively. If the Hawks actually had a coach, he'd be on the hot-seat, that's for sure.

"I can't believe one of the fans didn't throw their hat on the ice," said Barry Snow, who was minus-2 in the game. "Our fans suck," he added, clearly in a bad mood.

"Barry hasn't been taking his children's vitamins," said Chris Carpenter from the back of the room. "We just ignore him when he's like this, throwing things and all angry and stuff."

The Arrowhawks battled their way to a lead after Oleg Chetverikov, the most amazing C2 Ukrainian in Ohio, crashed the net and potted a goal at the 10:28 mark of the third. 'Epic Win' was so happy he almost smiled. "We don't like the smile while on the ice," the steely jawed, dangler admitted after the game.

The Hawks hoped the scoring would stop. It didn't.

The Mo's scored again 20 seconds later. Hawks fans in attendance (2) boo'd in displeasure over the Hawks swiss-cheese defense. This time it was #3 Scott Moehring (no word if he was named after those steel things they put in the ice to hold the goalie's net in place) who was so mad when the Hawks scored he screamed bad words from the bench, leading the women and children in attendance to cover their ears in horror. "Is that guy cursing in Scottish?" asked an old man from the crowd.

It's the second consecutive loss against the Eskimos. The Hawks have been outscored by a field goal in their last two games, 10-7. No doubt they are missing defensive stalwarts Nick Lanctot and Mac Lawless who've finally decided to try their hand at Dancing with the Stars.

"Yes they are great players for us. Leaders and poised with the puck. But we like our defense this session and won't let the fact that they'd rather dress up in tights and rhinestones effect our concentration," said Mike Gauthier.

G. Ted Bulwinkle, Gauthier, Rick Titus and Barry Snow were the defensive group tonight. They fought hard and pushed the Mo's to the outside on most occasions. Terry Walker missed the game with a lower body injury. Joe 'No Fear' Factor was involved in a minor car accident on his way to the arena before the game. "I forgot I was in reverse at the McDonalds and rammed some chicks Smart car," said Factor via text. "No worries, I bought her dinner." said the humanitarian of the year.

Kevin Griffith ate hot dogs before the game. It became very apparent in the third period. His teamates may say he effected the energy on the bench, but nobody would admit it after the game.

Despite the high scoring, Arrowhawk goaltender Andrew Daniels played well, displaying a lightning fast glove and covering rebounds. He's a large goalie and moves well from post to post.

New Arrowhawk Sean Wright played very well. "I was a little rusty," said the skilled forward. "But it felt great and I'm pretty sure I'll settle in."

Let's hope so, Sean. The Hawks need to settle in and close up the defensive holes quickly.

"Big Pucks next week," said LW Tom Morgan. "There are no easy games anymore."
