ARENA DISTRICT, OH - The rivalry continues Friday, folks. The last game between the Hawks and Eskimos ended in a 5-5 tie, with seven players removed from the ice via stretcher. It was a brutal affair. Pucks were blasted around the ice with vigor all night. Chris Carpenter notched a hat trick and Mark Monahan was ejected for excessive vulgarity. Goalies were tested time and time again. The fans left the building dazed and exhausted but wanting more.
Or maybe that was just in my dream last night. Must be, because I don't think we have any fans.
Truth is, I don't remember what happened the last time the Eskimos and the Arrowhawks matched up, though I think it was an Eskimo victory. I certainly remember the last playoff meeting, a 5-2 drubbing in last session's championship game. The Eskimos frustrated the Arrowhawks forwards by clogging the neutral zone and attacking them with a tenacious forecheck. They got up early and never looked back.
If the Arrowhawks are going to have a chance, they'll need scoring from their top line, Kevin Griffith, Bryan Griffith and Oleg Chetverikov. (If you are an Eskimo player and you are reading this, Oleg is from the Ukraine and he loves to pass the puck. He's a playmaker and he's most dangerous when you pressure him. Best bet is to back off and give him room. That's the best defensive strategy.) Defensively, the Arrowhawks will need to block shots and say some prayers that the shots won't hurt too much.
Check back in the coming days for more stellar reporting.
