"Let's go Mhairi"

File this one under the "yeah, we knew that" column. Obviously, the Hawks are huge supporters of womens athletics. There's nothing quite like the watching the Canadian Women's Curling team crush the Japanese, or seeing Maria Sharapova double-bagel some nobody from Botswana. In fact, there are a number of Hawks that regularly seek out women's college volleyball (in Hi-Def) just to see the rampant "athleticism".

Well, this weekend the Hawks have a real rooting interest. Second-line center Mark Monahan has a buddy caddying for former Stanford All-American Mhairi McKay as she competes on the LPGA Tour. Mhairi opened with rounds of 69-69 to get herself into contention in this week's Navistar Classic, presented by Monaco R.V. She enters the weekend tied for 24th, but is looking to make a move up the leaderboard with continued good play.

"We're all rooting for Mhairi," said Monahan as he mauled his Cuban Pork Sandwich at Champp's after the Hawks topped the Bombers on Friday. "69-69 is a pretty good start, and it's certainly our favorite set of numbers. We're looking for good things from her this weekend."
