Orange JV win Blue Jacket cup

The following is from Arrowhawk utility man, Joe Factor, coach of the Olentangy Orange JV boys hockey team.

"Fun weekend at this end, guys. Thurs evening my Olentangy Orange JV team opened with a win in The Blue Jackets Cup--the season ending tournament for our league, the Capital Hockey Conference. After finishing in a four way tie for third for the regular season, we were seeded 6th in the tourn (which was curious because we had beaten a couple of the teams placed ahead of us in the regular season).

Regardless, by the end of the day Sat we had won our way into today's final against #1 seed Moeller. Jumping ahead (I'll spare you the specifics of my pregame speech in which I borrowed liberally from Herb Brooks' "Miracle" speech), the game was a freeking hockey war--not dirty, but just hard-nose tough.

By the end of the second period we were down 2-0, but I could see Moeller becoming unsettled because we just kept coming at 'em. By the time we got our first goal early in the third we had them back on their heels. That's when it started getting a bit surreal with all the energy generated by a couple hundred supporters chanting and cheering the team on. And when we tied the game with a couple minutes left and subsequently won it in sudden death OT, it was like the end of a really cheesey feel-good sports movie. Which is to say...it was awesome! The boys got to skate the trophy around ala the Cup and everything.

Amongst the spoils of the victory is the right to represent the southern half of Ohio in the state JV tournament in Cleveland next week. Looking forward to it."
