Summer recap

For those of you that took the summer off, here is what you missed:

• Tom Morgan busted his shoulder in the first game. As usual, Morgan was busting his ass trying to score only to be taken out by two defenders. His collarbone was shattered when he crashed into the boards. Morgan took over holding the clipboard and did one helluva job managing a constantly changing roster. Many thanks, Tom!

• Mark Monahan probably led the team in scoring. I played in 4 or 5 games as a sub and every time I did Mark scored a goal or two. He and Jason Torsok continued to work the puck well together. Jason was a demon in front and scored some timely goals.

• Kevin Griffith played several games and really began to establish himself, even without his older and better looking brothers.

• Gooch led the team in penalty minutes.

• Mac Lawless showed he can skate fast. Especially when chasing down a 3-0 with an angry Jason Jensen yelling at him. (Gooch was probably in the penalty box).

• 19 points for the session qualified the Hawks with a #2 seed for the playoffs.

• Jensen's 2.08 GAA average led the league again. We know it was stellar goaltending over stellar D since Gooch was always in the penalty box.

• 58 goals were second to the #1 seed and eventual champion More Cowbells 68 goals.

• The Hawks out-dueled a talented Maple Leaf team 1-0 in the semifinals behind strong defense (Gooch must have stayed outta the sin-bin) and amazing goaltending.

• 5-2 loss in the championship to the Cowbells. The loss is the second consecutive for the Hawks against the Dirty Dozen/Cowbells. They defeated us 6-5 in a shootout in the winter session.
